A very rare example of the Wolseley Wasp 6 Light Saloon, finished in Black over a re-upholstered Red interior. The cabin presents well, as do the mechanicals, with the car having been driven to us by the vendor. Cosmetic attention is needed to elevate it to a truly top-tier example.
Just four former keepers are recorded on the V5C. Accompanying the car is a good level of documentation, including correspondence with the Wolseley Register, an assortment of invoices, and a selection of old MOT certificates. Recent work includes the fitment of a new fuel tank, fuel pump, and fuel pipe, along with a carburettor repair kit and float, plus new plugs, points, and leads. The brake cylinders have also been repaired, ensuring the car is in sound running order.
Produced for a very short period from 1935 to 1936 as an evolution of the Wolseley Nine, the Wasp featured a larger overhead camshaft engine, 12-volt electrics, steel disc wheels, and hydraulic brakes — all driving the rear wheels via a four-speed gearbox. Only 5,815 examples were produced, making surviving cars highly desirable to collectors.
Offered for sale due to The Vendor’s recent purchase of a Jaguar F-Type, this Wasp represents an appealing opportunity to acquire a seldom-seen pre-war saloon with solid mechanical health and scope for cosmetic improvement.
