This is a very nice example of a Riley RMB, presented in Black complemented by a Tan leather interior. With an original and unspoiled feel throughout, it showcases the dignified styling and understated luxury typical of post-war Riley craftsmanship.
This RMB has been in the hands of the current registered keeper for the past 13 years, with just one former keeper noted on the V5C — a rare ownership profile for a car of this vintage. Interestingly, it also spent a period of time overseas before returning to the UK. The overall condition and paperwork suggest long-term enthusiasm and respectful ownership. Accompanying the car is a copy of the Riley 1½ and 2½ Litre Workshop Manual, along with a few MOT certificates suggesting past care and attention. While not heavily documented, the vehicle appears to have been preserved in a mechanically sympathetic fashion, offering a solid base for continued enjoyment.
Launched in 1946, the RMB was a lengthened, more powerful version of the earlier RMA saloon. It featured the renowned 2.5-litre “Big Four” engine with twin SU carburettors, delivering 100 hp by 1948 and a top speed close to 95 mph — impressive for its time. Its longer wheelbase and increased body length offered improved cabin space and ride comfort. Distinctive light blue bonnet and boot badges identify this as a true 2½ Litre model. The RMB remained in production until 1952, succeeded by the RMF.
With its originality and low ownership history, this 1948 Riley RMB 2.5 Litre is a highly appealing proposition for collectors and enthusiasts of post-war British motoring.
