A great example of an MG B Roadster, finished in vibrant Flame Red with a contrasting Black soft top over Black leather interior with Red piping. Originally a rubber bumper model, this Roadster has been tastefully converted to chrome and now presents as one of the most desirable versions of this classic British sports car.
The Vendor has enjoyed this Roadster for the past 11 years, with 5 former keepers recorded prior. A wealth of invoices and MOT certificates are contained within the history file, documenting both the refurbishment and subsequent maintenance. In 2014, the car underwent a full bare-metal refurbishment with a host of new and uprated parts fitted, including a conversion to wire wheels, replacement engine rubber mounts, radiator, water pump, starter motor, oil cooler hoses, alternator, fuel pump, HT leads & distributor cap, club exhaust and a new vinyl hood. The current mileage of 91,050 is believed correct, supported by numerous MOTs, though it cannot be fully warranted. Power comes from an Ivor Searle engine fitted approximately 27,000 miles ago, built in 1995/96 to standard specification but adapted for unleaded fuel use.
Launched in 1962, the MG B Roadster was the first of the MGB range and quickly became one of Britain’s most iconic sports cars along with the later released GT. Its monocoque construction, improved passenger comfort and practical luggage space represented a leap forward from the MG A. Later U.S. regulations brought about the adoption of rubber bumpers from 1974, giving rise to the distinction between ‘chrome’ and ‘rubber’ bumper cars. With its conversion back to chrome, this example represents the Roadster at its most classic and desirable.
Well-presented, extensively refurbished and offered with desirable chrome bumpers, this MG B Roadster combines cosmetic appeal with mechanical confidence thanks to its Ivor Searle engine and careful long-term ownership. A fine opportunity to acquire a thoroughly sorted and iconic British sports car, ready to be enjoyed by its next custodian.
