On the Surface:

This 1989 Austin Metro City X is a very tidy, low-mileage example, finished in White over a cloth interior. With just 15,597 genuine miles from new, the car presents in clean and original condition. Recently fitted with new wheels and tyres (with the original set included), it is MOT’d until June 2026 and ready for enjoyment or display.

Maintenance & History:

Originally supplied by Four Seasons Garage of Kingston Upon Thames, the car was sold to Miss Poole shortly thereafter and remained in her careful ownership for the next 30 years. Sparingly used for 16 years and garaged from 2005 to 2019, it remained off the road again until last year, preserving its condition and originality across decades of low-mileage, private ownership. Accompanied by its original Austin bookpack, the Metro’s Service Record contains ten official stamps and five handwritten service entries, covering maintenance from its first service at 841 miles in 1989 through to its last at 13,817 miles in 2005. An MOT was carried out in 2019 at 13,859 miles, and the car has covered very few miles since.

The Model:

The Metro, launched in 1980 as the Austin Mini Metro, was British Leyland’s ambitious answer to the growing supermini segment. Initially developed under the ADO88 project as a Mini replacement, the Metro evolved into a versatile, modern hatchback offering practicality and charm in a compact package. Following the 1984 facelift, Mark II Metros like this example gained subtle exterior updates and refinements, securing their place as a fixture of British roads into the 1990s.

Sale Insight:

This low-mileage, well-preserved Austin Metro City X offers a rare chance to acquire a timewarp example of one of Britain’s most iconic small cars. With long period ownership, detailed service history and recent recommissioning, it represents a nostalgic and collectible piece of 1980s motoring heritage—equally suited to the enthusiast or collector.
