In Brief:

  • A cracking example of a A60 Sun Tor Camper
  • Finished in Old English White with a pop-up roof over a cloth interior
  • Owned by the current keeper for the last 3 years
  • 5 former keepers
  • Accompanied by a fantastic history file

Auctioneer’s Notes:

A charming 1970 Morris Sun Tor Camper, offered as part of the same estate sale as Lot 3 and 32. This is a highly characterful post-production camper conversion with plenty of period appeal. Compact, practical and full of vintage charm, it represents an appealing opportunity for those seeking a distinctive classic camper with an interesting accompanying history file.

Maintenance & Condition:

The camper is accompanied by invoices detailing a replacement clutch and master cylinder in 2021, replacement front wheel cylinder seals in 2021, fuel tank repair, and regular brake servicing. Invoices between August 2016 and May 2022 total over £5,300, including the cost of MOTs, suggesting the vehicle has received consistent attention in recent years. As noted, it presents in age-appropriate condition, with the sort of charm and patina expected of a camper of this era.

History:

The paperwork file is a particularly appealing aspect of this example. Included is a Morris Oxford, Morris Cowley and 1/2 Ton Van workshop manual, an original specification guide, service documents and MOT history. A further folder contains a quotation/order form dated to approximately 1971, showing a cost of £1,251 — the equivalent of roughly £21,000–£25,000 in today’s money. Also present are operating instructions, a reprint from Civil Service Motoring featuring original information from a caravan test, period sales information, a small collection of tax discs and material relating to motorhome clubs.

The Model:

The Morris Sun Tor, sometimes styled as SunTor, was a post-production camper van conversion produced by Torcars of Torrington, Devon. Built predominantly on the Morris A60 light van platform, the Sun Tor offered a cleverly packaged and highly usable small camper, well suited to weekend getaways and touring holidays. Typical features included an elevating pop-top roof, allowing improved headroom once parked, along with a cosy and space-efficient interior layout. Their compact footprint, simple mechanicals and period camper detailing make them especially appealing today.

Sale Insight:

With its estate-sale provenance, charming presentation and substantial supporting paperwork, this Morris Sun Tor Camper is a delightful period camper with genuine nostalgic appeal.
