Auctioneer's Notes:

A wonderfully presented 1976 MG B Roadster, finished in striking Citron Yellow and fitted with desirable overdrive. This example has been in The Vendor’s ownership for the last 13 years and is accompanied by a huge history file, making it a particularly well-documented example of one of Britain’s best-loved sports cars. Further features include a boot rack, Rostyle wheels and a tonneau cover.

Maintenance & Condition:

The MG benefitted from a major restoration in 1995 by Falla Classics of Bournemouth, with the file containing an impressive collection of printed photographs documenting the restoration process, alongside further images of the car post-restoration. Supporting invoices show extensive care and maintenance over the years, including wheel cylinder replacements, a new steering wheel, fuel hose replacement, reconditioned shock absorber, leather gear knob, engine bay rust removal and respray, unleaded conversion, new front wings, boot rack and the fitting of two full harness seat belts. There is also substantial evidence of expenditure on pipes, seals, gaskets and sundry items, further demonstrating the level of upkeep this car has received.

History:

The accompanying history file is extensive, containing restoration photographs, post-restoration images, receipts for maintenance and improvement works, tax discs and MOT history up until 2018. Also included is a catalogue for MG parts from C.O.H. Baines, as well as a valuation document from Falla Classics, who carried out the restoration, valuing the car at £5,000 in 1995 — equating to approximately £12,500 in today’s money.

The Model:

The 1976 MG B Roadster is an iconic and highly usable British classic, powered by the dependable 1.8-litre B-Series four-cylinder engine paired with a 4-speed manual gearbox, with overdrive often regarded as one of the most desirable additions for relaxed cruising. By 1976, the MGB was firmly within the rubber bumper era, introduced in late 1974 to meet changing safety regulations. While earlier chrome bumper cars have their own appeal, these later examples remain popular for their usability, straightforward mechanicals, strong parts support and enjoyable open-air driving experience.

Sale Insight:

With long-term ownership, desirable overdrive, a major Falla Classics restoration and a remarkably comprehensive history file, this Citron Yellow MG B Roadster represents a well-cared-for and attractive example of the marque. Ready to be enjoyed as a characterful British classic, it offers the charm, simplicity and usability that have made the MGB such an enduring favourite.
