A fantastic, low-mileage example of the ever-desirable 1989 Ford Escort RS Turbo Series 2, finished in eye-catching Rosso Red over a Grey Recaro interior. Presenting in great condition and appearing to remain largely original, this is a highly appealing example of Ford’s iconic late-1980s performance hatchback.
This RS Turbo has clearly been well cared for, with a strong maintenance record and recent mechanical attention. In February 2024, FourTrax Automotive of Desborough, Northamptonshire carried out major servicing and mechanical work at a cost of £1,100.48. This included replacement of the cambelt, water pump and auxiliary belt, replacement front brake calipers, brake strip and clean, brake fluid flush and replacement, rear drum brake strip, clean and adjustment, oil and filter change, new spark plugs, fuel filter, rotor arm and distributor cap. During The Vendor’s ownership, the car has also had a dent removed from the passenger side above the tail light, further improving its presentation.
Accompanied by a fantastic history file, this genuine low-mileage example includes the original purchase invoice from J Blake & Co Ltd of Liverpool, showing the car was bought new in 1989 by a Mr R. A. Bryant for £10,174.30. Also present are MOT certificates dating back to 1997, a selection of old tax discs, and invoices for servicing and maintenance totalling around £3,500. The original Ford Service Book is included and displays 23 service stamps between 1989 at 1,206 miles and 2017 at 51,664 miles. Together with the MOT history, this helps confirm the current mileage as genuine.
Built from 1986 to 1990, the Series 2 Escort RS Turbo refined the appeal of its predecessor and remains one of the most recognisable performance Fords of its era. Powered by the 1.6-litre fuel-injected CVH engine paired with a Garrett T3 turbocharger, it produced around 132 bhp, allowing 0–60 mph in approximately 8.3 seconds and a top speed of around 125 mph. The Series 2 also benefitted from uprated suspension, mechanical ABS, a limited-slip differential and larger brakes, all contributing to improved handling and control. With its colour-coded bodywork, distinctive RS styling, Recaro interior and purposeful road presence, it remains a true 1980s hot hatch icon.
With its low mileage, Rosso Red finish, Grey Recaro interior, impressive history file, original service book showing 23 stamps and recent major maintenance, this 1989 Ford Escort RS Turbo Series 2 represents an exciting opportunity to acquire a highly collectible and fast-appreciating modern classic.
