A fascinating and increasingly unusual example of Volvo's purposeful C202 Laplander, combining unmistakable military-derived styling with the simplicity and toughness for which these vehicles are renowned. This 1978 example is accompanied by an exceptionally extensive and thoughtfully assembled history and technical file, going far beyond the usual collection of invoices and MOT certificates. The quantity of model-specific literature, diagrams, parts information and handwritten technical material should prove particularly valuable for future ownership and maintenance.

Maintenance & Condition:

The accompanying invoices demonstrate continued mechanical attention over the years, with recorded expenditure covering significant items including the clutch master cylinder, replacement clutch components, brake work and a starter motor, alongside a considerable quantity of smaller service items, sundries and replacement parts.

The Model:

The Volvo C202 Laplander was developed from Volvo's earlier L3314 military utility vehicles as a more civilian-orientated four-wheel-drive machine. Production took place principally in Hungary at the Csepel works between the late 1970s and early 1980s, with only a relatively small number produced.

Power comes from Volvo's proven 1,986cc B20A four-cylinder petrol engine, producing approximately 82bhp, coupled to a four-speed manual gearbox and transfer case providing selectable four-wheel drive. Simple mechanical construction, generous ground clearance and compact dimensions gave the C202 considerable off-road ability, while its distinctive forward-control bodywork has made it one of Volvo's most recognisable specialist vehicles.
